Self-care is a frequently discussed topic but few people actually take the time to engage in proper self-care. This post is dedicated to ways we can take better care of ourselves so that we can be better for those we love, and those that love us.
01 | BREAKS
With the pandemic wearing away at our nerves, rejuvenating vacations at an all-time-low, and holiday to-dos mounting, it is more necessary than ever that we focus on self-care. By creating an array of items that give us a break and fit into the time we have, we can engage in some very beneficial self-care. My personal list includes examples like the following:
- Get a massage (Massage Envy is offering BOGOs)
- Give yourself a facial
- Find a place to relax and read 1-2 chapters of a really good book
- Give yourself 20 minutes each day to just goof off without feeling guilty about it.
02 | SKINCARE
When my skin and hair are at their best, I can generally feel pretty good. This season, I’ve been using this vitamin C serum (with hyaluronic acid and some other goodies) to improve the texture of my skin and even out my skin tone. Can I say that I’m in love 🥰 with it? I’m in my 40s and it has done wonders for my moisture level and my fine lines and wrinkles. I’m equally impressed with this vitamin C body lotion. It glides on like a dream
03 | SELF REFLECTION + SLEEP
If you haven’t taken up the practice of journaling, meditation, or praying regularly, now maybe the time to do so. Studies have shown that many of these activities can have a positive effect on the way you perceive and live your life. Also, if you’re able to turn in 30 minutes earlier, do so. The benefits of a good night’s sleep should not be underestimated.
04 | LESS IS MORE
The holiday season, at times, can be filled with excess. This year aim for quality over quantity. I love decorating for the holidays, swapping out the wreath on my door and buying fragrances that give my home an undeniable holiday feel. However, I’ve noticed that when it comes to gift giving and receiving, I’m (as well as many of my recipients) in the category of not needing very many items.
As a family, we’ve decided (we don’t have kiddos yet) that this year we will all exchange gifts in accordance with the white elephant gift exchange rules. Our hope is to reduce the excess that’s found in traditional gift exchanges and to focus on quality time spent with each other.
