SIMPLE SKINCARE ROUTINE: 4 PRODUCTS

In my younger days, I was well aware of the sun’s harmful effects, yet I couldn’t resist it.  Needless to say, those sun-soaked days were silently leaving their mark.  While I have been lucky to escape major sun damage, its subtle impact has prompted me to really rethink my approach to skincare.

My skincare philosophy centers on efficiency and simplicity. I love products but learned long ago that I would never be the type that requires multiple products in the same category. I’m a one-and-done person, and I aim to only integrate products that offer double-duty benefits and deliver visible results.

FACE

I wash my face with Noxzema and wear a vitamin C, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid serum, which is the dreamiest (and super affordable). I attribute most of my skin’s health and youthful appearance to this serum alone. It lightly moisturizes and works magic that helps skin tone appear even and wrinkles appear diminished. I use this serum during the day and alternate it at night with my retinol routine.

BODY

My body’s skin tends to lean on the dry side, and I have tried at least a dozen different lotions in search of the one that would deliver all-day moisturization without feeling weighty on my skin….and very few work. Many creams aimed at treating crepey skin left my skin feeling taut and looking pasty. The other products didn’t deliver enough moisturization to keep my skin hydrated all day long.

After trying numerous options, I came back to Palmer’s Cocoa Butter (I was a fan in my younger days but bought the hype and started chasing other products), and I cannot recommend a better moisturizer for 40-plus-year-old skin (if you’re not yet 40…it’s not too soon to get on this bandwagon). It is literally the best. It provides all-day moisturization and leaves my skin feeling more elasticized. The only drawback is the fragrance. If you’re into a light cocoa butter scent, you’re in for a treat. If it’s not your thing, the company makes a fragrance-free product, but I’ve noticed it is a little more challenging to come by in stores.

Remember, our skincare journeys are personal. While I’ve discovered what works for me, it’s important to adapt to your skin’s changing needs. If you’re taking cues from my experience, consider including a broad-spectrum sunscreen for added protection and introduce new products gradually.
