The right gear can make all the difference when working on the go.
As a small business owner who frequently works from different locations, I’ve fine-tuned my setup to ensure I can be productive almost anywhere.
Here are the mobile office essentials I never leave home without:
1. iPad Pro 11-inch (always with a case, keyboard, and wireless mouse): This device is lightweight and powerful. Since I have added many applications I use on my desktop to my iPad, my location rarely affects my workflow.
2. Charging Kit: I carry charging cords and a power converter with a USB component to keep my devices ready for use. If I have learned anything about working in different locations, it is that these items are a must! Battery-powered devices habitually give out when you least expect it.
If you are unfamiliar with how a power converter works, it is like a 120V AC household outlet you can use in your vehicle. I can even charge my laptop using the power converter, which is handy.
3. Lap Desk: If you’ve tried working while on the go, you know it can be challenging to find a comfortable workspace. My lap desk provides a stable surface, so I can work efficiently no matter where I’m seated. I have a couple of different versions, and I like that both have grooves to hold items like a phone or a tablet.
4. Apple Pencil: My Apple Pencil has significantly reduced my reliance on paper. I went from printing hundreds of pages to around 20 pages a month. Using this device, along with the Goodnotes app, has helped my office to be virtually paperless.
5. Headset: I purchased a trucker’s headset with a microphone because of its design. It has one ear out and a headphone/microphone unit on the opposite side. With this device, I can answer calls hands-free and easily participate in virtual meetings.
6. Phone and Notebook: I also keep a small notebook handy for jotting down things when taking digital notes is impractical. I guess it goes without saying that I always have my phone.
With this compact yet powerful mobile office setup, I’m ready to tackle tasks, meet deadlines, and keep my business running smoothly, no matter where I work on a given day.
